Privacy Policy — Tag Debugger
Chrome extension by Aloola.io · Last updated 30 July 2026
Tag Debugger does not collect, transmit, or sell any data. Everything it observes stays inside your browser.
What the extension does
Tag Debugger is a developer tool. When you open Chrome DevTools and select the Tag Debugger panel, it shows the marketing and analytics tags the page you are inspecting sends — the vendor, the parameters, the response — so you can verify your own site’s tracking is configured correctly.
What it accesses
To do that, the extension observes, within your browser only:
- Outgoing network requests from the tab you are inspecting, so it can identify tags and read the parameters they send.
- Navigations in that tab, so tags can be grouped by the page they fired on.
-
The page’s data layer (
dataLayer,digitalData,utag_data), so the values tags report can be compared against what the page declared.
What it stores
- Captured tag data is held in memory only, for the tab being inspected. It is never written to disk. It is discarded when you close the tab, clear the log, or Chrome suspends the extension.
-
Interface preferences — row density, colour theme, and which findings are marked — are saved with
chrome.storage.localon your own device.
Nothing else is stored.
What it sends
Nothing. The extension has no server, makes no network requests of its own, and contains no analytics, telemetry, or error reporting. It does not require an account. Your data is never transmitted, shared, or sold. CSV exports are generated in your browser and saved directly to your computer.
Personal data detection
Tag Debugger warns you when a page appears to be sending personal data — such as an email address, phone number, payment card number, or national identification number — to a third-party marketing endpoint. This exists to help you find and fix privacy problems on your own site.
Any value it detects is masked before it is displayed (for example j*******@). Detected values are never stored, logged, or transmitted.
